Custom Industrial Mixer Design: What to Specify Before Requesting a Quote
A custom industrial mixer quotation is most useful when it is based on clear process data. The more accurately you describe your material, production target and installation constraints, the easier it is to select the right mixing mechanism and include the options your process actually needs.
Describe the material and process
Start with the material name, bulk density, particle size, moisture, viscosity, abrasiveness and temperature sensitivity. Explain whether the duty is powder blending, granule mixing, powder-liquid addition, drying, coating or a more specialized process.
Define the production requirement
- Batch size or continuous throughput
- Number of batches per hour or shift
- Target mixing time and uniformity requirement
- Minimum and maximum operating batch size
- Required discharge method and downstream equipment
Identify construction and compliance needs
Material of construction, surface finish, seals and electrical configuration should match the application. Food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic projects may have sanitary requirements. Chemical or dust-handling applications may require specific corrosion resistance, sealing or explosion-protection considerations.
Specify useful options early
Common options include liquid spray nozzles, heating or cooling jackets, vacuum systems, high-speed choppers, weighing systems, dust collection connections, access covers and automation. Discussing these early helps prevent later changes to the vessel, drive or control design.
Provide installation information
Share available floor space, height limits, power supply, compressed-air availability, heating medium, vacuum connections and the dimensions of upstream and downstream equipment. This information is especially important for retrofit projects.
Product families and reference ranges
| Product family | Reference working volume | Typical design focus |
|---|---|---|
| DEH laboratory mixer | 5–300 L | Formulation development and pilot batches |
| DSHL conical screw mixer | 50–5,000 L | Gentle mixing and low-residue discharge |
| DJH paddle mixer | 40–8,000 L | Fast batch blending |
| DRH vacuum drying mixer | 30–9,000 L | Mixing with controlled heating and vacuum drying |
| DLH/DPH ribbon mixer | 35–15,000 L | Powder and granule blending |
| DJHX continuous paddle mixer | 40–3,500 L | Continuous powder and liquid addition |
Industry-specific design questions
Food additives, feed, pesticides, cosmetics, building materials, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, refractory products, plastics, rubber, minerals and fertilizers can impose different requirements for hygiene, corrosion resistance, wear protection, dust control, sealing and cleaning. A custom proposal should state the industry, material and downstream equipment instead of relying on a generic mixer name.
Use product examples to start the discussion
For gentle conical mixing, see the DSHL Conical Screw Mixer. For high-speed batch blending, review the DJH Double-Shaft Paddle Mixer. For vacuum drying duties, the DRH Vacuum Drying Mixer provides a useful reference point.
A good specification does not need to be complicated. It needs to describe the material, capacity, process goal, available utilities and any non-negotiable requirements. Contact our team to request a custom industrial mixer proposal.
