Lithium battery material mixing: blending cathode (LCO/NMC/LMO) and anode (graphite) powders and slurries with twin-shaft and plow mixers, plus vacuum drying in one line and whole-plant supply.
Battery performance starts at the mix. Cathode materials (lithium cobalt oxide, NMC, lithium manganate) and anode materials (graphite) must be blended into a homogeneous powder and then into a coating slurry with no agglomerates and a tight, repeatable distribution. The DJHX continuous twin-shaft paddle mixer gives the fast, uniform solid-solid blending; the DLT plow mixer handles the high-shear slurry stage where binder and solvent must wet the active powder completely. For cell-line and whole-plant supply, see our lithium battery material mixing equipment page.
Cathode, anode and the slurry stage
Cathode and anode powders are first dry-blended for uniform active-material distribution, then turned into slurry with binder, conductive additive and solvent (NMP for cathode, water or solvent for anode). The slurry must be de-agglomerated and de-aerated so the coating is pinhole-free. This two-stage route — dry blend then high-shear slurry — is where twin-shaft and plow mixers divide the work.
Continuous twin-shaft vs plow for battery lines
For continuous powder pre-blending and high throughput, the DJHX continuous twin-shaft paddle mixer fluidises the bed and discharges without opening the vessel, matching electrode-line cadence. For the slurry stage the plow mixer with flying knives disperses binder and active powder in a turbulent bed. For low-residue changeovers between chemistries the DSHL conical screw mixer keeps heel minimal.
Drying in the same line
After blending, electrode materials are often dried before coating. The DRH vacuum drying mixer removes moisture under vacuum in one vessel, avoiding a separate dryer and re-handling. Its vacuum-drying structure is protected by our Chinese utility model patent ZL 2018 2 1247610.1, covering the drying-mixer arrangement used for heat-sensitive battery powders.
Typical battery twin-shaft technical parameters (DJHX)
| Model | Working volume (L) | Motor power (kW) | Speed (r/min) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DJHX-300 | 100–150 | 5.5 | 41 |
| DJHX-1000 | 400–600 | 11 | 33 |
| DJHX-2000 | 800–1200 | 18.5 | 31 |
| DJHX-4000 | 1600–2000 | 30 | 29 |
| DJHX-6000 | 2200–3500 | 45 | 23 |
The DJHX line spans roughly 40–3500 L working volume and 4–45 kW motor power; the rows above are representative points for electrode-material duty. Final model depends on bulk density, solids loading and required residence time — confirm with a trial on your actual cathode or anode formulation.
Plant and sanitation notes
Use SS304/SS316L contact parts, fully opening cleaning doors and arc discharge valves for fast chemistry change, bind the vessel to ground for conductive powders, and keep the reducer oil in spec. We also supply complete battery-material plants — blending, dispersion, drying and conveying engineered as one line — so the electrode process stays consistent from raw powder to coating-ready slurry.
